Christoph Blocher art collection - installation of a high-quality painting storage facility

For Christoph Blocher's outstanding art collection, one of the most important private collections of Swiss art from around 1900, ArtStore has designed and installed an exclusive painting hoist system. The collection includes masterpieces by renowned artists such as Ferdinand Hodler, Albert Anker, Giovanni Giacometti and Giovanni Segantini as well as works by Adolf Dietrich, Max Buri, Alexandre Calame, Édouard Castres, Benjamin Vautier, Robert Zünd and Félix Vallotton.

As part of the relocation of Blocher's headquarters and office from Männedorf to Herrliberg in 2020, a highly professional art storage facility was developed in collaboration with Maurusfrei Architekten AG. The architects, who are known for their projects for discerning private clients, oversaw the expansion of Blocher's private property. The aim was to store the valuable works of art securely and accessibly using a special storage system that also fulfils the special requirements of a frequently used museum loan system.

Requirements and realisation by ArtStore

The client's requirement was to develop a high-quality and durable painting storage system that would optimally protect the artworks and at the same time allow quick access. ArtStore realised a linear system that was mounted directly on the ceiling, making the paintings freely accessible. The robust construction guarantees the preservation and safe storage of the artworks - an essential feature as the collection is regularly loaned to major museums in Switzerland and internationally.

With the total hanging space, which has been adapted precisely to the dimensions of the collection, the system enables efficient utilisation and management of the works of art. This solution ensures that the valuable works of Swiss art history are optimally stored and can be easily made available for exhibitions as required.
