Since 1954, STIB/MIVB has been the municipal provider of public transportation in Brussels, operating the metro, trams, and city buses. With a fleet of 700 buses, STIB/MIVB services 47 bus lines spanning a total length of 348.8 km.
In the bus depots located in Anderlecht, Haren, and Oudergem, advanced technologies are employed to ensure efficient operations. These include ceiling-mounted sliding walls made of durable steel elements with a surrounding frame and welded wire mesh on both sides. These meshes are powder-coated in RAL 9018 papyrus white. To further reinforce the sliding walls, a front bar made of anodized aluminum profile is used, providing maximum stability and longevity.
These sliding walls type M-50 are specifically utilized for storing replacement windows for buses during maintenance. They offer organized and easily accessible storage for spare parts, significantly improving the efficiency and speed of maintenance work. Thanks to these innovative solutions, STIB/MIVB ensures that its buses are always well-maintained and ready to meet the daily demands of public transportation in Brussels.
We executed this extraordinary project in partnership with RGO Storage Solutions from the Netherlands. The challenge and unique aspect of this installation lie in the very heavy bus windows, which have a hanging weight of 40 kg/m². By comparison, pictures usually weigh between 10 and 20 kg/m². Thanks to precise static calculations, we were able to adjust our installation accordingly. This is underscored and certified by our GS mark, which stands for tested safety.
