Display repository

A display repository is a publicly accessible area with objects that are in storage. The stored collection items can be viewed by visitors without having to be transported to an exhibition. The display repository raises awareness of hidden collections by making them accessible to visitors and scientists. Experts also call the display repository a "shop window into the heart of a museum", because the display repository has only one purpose: to present collections. The Schaudepot serves a museum as a storage facility for objects and is open to the public. In this way, it offers a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum's work, allowing the museum visitor to participate in the work of the museologist, namely preservation and research. There are various display repositories in Switzerland.

Display repository

Whether private or public, there are always good reasons to make your art collection accessible to invited guests or visitors to the museum. We would like to show you our almost unlimited possibilities using the sample images of objects realised by us so far.

The display repository differs from regular museum depots in particular with regard to the presentation of museum holdings. By means of selected works, the display repository provides an extraordinary insight into the collections. Often these are stored in the stacks for reasons of space. Interestingly, display repositories can be set up without any rules, because the focus here is on skilful visitor guidance. Arrangements can be chosen according to collection areas or content connections, form and size, or even according to material and conservation aspects. The result is attractive, surprising and original arrangements and thus new opportunities for comparison.
